Foreword
New Homes represent large investments - the largest many
people ever make. As all investments require safekeeping and
protection, this booklet was developed by The Canadian New
Home Warranty Programs to help you protect your new home and
to guide you in its maintenance.
This booklet was carefully prepared to help in the development
of a systematic and workable home care and maintenance programme
which, when in place, should ensure trouble free living.
Matters of "Warranty" are not discussed in any
detail in this booklet. For details on Warranty coverages,
please refer to the Limited Warrany Certificate provided to
you. Your builder or your provincial New Home Warranty Program
would welcome any enquiry to clarify Warranty issues.
There are some 3,000 items in a new home and a general working
knowledge of some of the more important of these is necessary.
lt will enable you to understand more fully the results of
heat, cold, humidity, expansion and contraction - conditions
which affect new homes. In the following pages we discuss
some common items in new home care.
Throughout this manual we use the term 'home'. While single
family homes may immediately come to mind, we intend 'home'
to also mean occupancies in plexes, townhouses and multi family
buildings.
